The British Council has revealed that in a recent poll 54% of British people surveyed were in favour of creationism and other theories being taught alongside evolution in the nations science classrooms. The findings of the poll show a marked difference to media perceptions of the public’s view on creationism and intelligent design.
The Poll also found that Londoners were more likely to believe in creationism with nearly a quarter of those surveyed holding the belief compared to a figure of 16% overall across the UK.
The British Council poll, which was conducted in ten countries, found that across all markets, 43% of respondents supported the statement “Evolutionary theories should be taught in science lessons in schools together with other possible perspectives, such as intelligent design and creationism.”
The findings may prove to be a topic of debate between supporters of each theory. Tell us what you think – would you support creationism being taught in science classrooms?
